Tuesday Night Ride
This is a "SLAG" Group Ride
The Alpine Shop is not the organizer of this group ride. We are putting this information out here due to the amount of calls we receive asking about it. Several of the Alpine Shop Outfitters do ride this ride. It is a great group of people!
Tuesday nights April through September for a variety of group rides that leave from the Kirkwood Alpine Shop store. They have 4 rides to choose from - every cyclist will have someone to ride with! The first time you ride with this group you will have to ask around to see which "group" is which. Once you find out which one is for you, it is very easy to find your group each week. Talk to the group leader (they can change) to see what route you are riding that day. Sometimes they switch them up during the season. Be flexible and have fun!
GROUP A aka "Bob's Group"
Group A averages over 20 mph and is a drop ride - if you don't hang with the group, please bring a route map with you to safely navigate home. The group leaves the Alpine Shop Kirkwood parking lot at 6:00 PM sharp and alternates between two routes - "The Classic" and "The Northwest Passage". Ask around before the ride to find out which route is being ridden each week (maps below)
GROUP B aka "Stacy's Group"
Group B averages 14-17 mph and does their best to keep all cyclists together - no guarantees that you will not be dropped, but most likely someone will hang back with you if you are having a slower day. The group leaves the Alpine Shop Kirkwood parking lot at 6:03 to give Group A a small head start, and rides "The Classic" route every week (map below).
GROUP C aka "Catherine's Group"
Group C averages 14-15 mph and does their best to keep all cyclists together - no guarantees that you will not be dropped, but most likely someone will hang back with you if you are having a slower day. The group leaves the Alpine Shop Kirkwood parking lot at 6:05 to give Groups A & B a small head start, and rides "The Lollipop" route every week (map below).
GROUP D aka "Grant's Trail Group"
The Grant's Trail Group averages 10-14 mph and is a guaranteed no-drop ride. The group leaves the Alpine Shop Kirkwood parking lot at 6:05 PM and rides 1.7 miles on quiet city roads to the western entrance to Grant's Trail aka "The Gazebo". Here, the group waits until 6:15 PM for anyone wanting to meet up there, and continues eastbound on Grant's Trail. Riders have the option of riding as far as they want on Grant's Trail - the full distance is 8 miles one-way and is entirely flat. We re-group at the eastern end of Grant's Trail and then ride back to Alpine Shop Kirkwood, making sure everyone is accounted for! See map below for more detail.
