Join the experts from the Alpine Shop staff for an amazing hiking adventure within a 2.5 hour drive of the St Louis metro area featuring the most scenic hikes in the Midwest. We need a minimum of 4 registered for the hikes, so get the word out and invite your friends, co-workers and family! We will only have a maximum of 12 hikers per hike. 11/11/18 - Don Robinson State Park Hike - 6+ miles
Tavern: Company BBQ
The quiet shady sanctuary of Don Robinson State Park, it’s hard to believe that the bustling metropolitan area of St. Louis is not far away. Its wooded hillsides buffer any outside noise and its interesting sandstone canyons make it easy to forget there is a world outside. That’s just what Don Robinson intended when he purchased the property as his personal home and sanctuary. The area is located in the upper watershed of the LaBarque Creek and features sandstone box canyons, shelter caves, cliffs, glades and upland and bottomland forests. It was Robinson’s wish that upon his death, his personal sanctuary would become part of the Missouri state park system. Today, Don Robinson State Park offers visitors to chance to experience and explore this amazing landscape that is not far from St. Louis but still a world away.
11/18/18 - Labarque Creek & Glassberg Hike- 6+ miles
Tavern: Sugarfire44 VP-Just an hour west of downtown St. Louis is a different world that seems far removed from the city. These hills forming the watershed of LaBarque Creek conserve a wide variety of aquatic and terrestrial life. LaBarque Creek supports 36 native fish species, including five native darters, making it the most diverse tributary to the Meramec River in the St. Louis area. Myron and Sonya Glassberg Family Conservation Area is a 429-acre protected area in northwestern Jefferson County, Missouri. It is south of Eureka and southeast of Pacific. The Glassberg Family Conservation Area is located within the watershed of the Meramec River, primarily in the watershed of LaBarque Creek. See wet-weather waterfalls and interesting rock formations carved from ancient St. Peters sandstone. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for over 40 breeding bird species.
11/25/18 - Rockwoods Reservation Hike - 6+miles
Tavern: O'Dell's Eureka MO-Lime Kiln loop trail. Rockwoods Reservation is in western St. Louis County. It was established in 1938 by a group of St. Louis businessmen headed by A.P. Greensfelder. Other gifts and purchases have increased the area to its present size of 1,880 acres. Today, Rockwoods Reservation is operated as an area for conservation education, hiking, wildlife viewing, and other outdoor recreation. We encourage day-use by the general public, school groups, and organizations. Rockwoods Reservation harbors a rich diversity of plant and animal life as well as springs, caves, and rock formations. Cool, moist, north facing ravines and lush creek bottoms contrast with the nearby arid, rocky ridge tops, and south slopes. The terrain is reminiscent of the Ozark hills and, indeed, many plants and animals found in hill country are also found here.
12/2/18 - Hawn State Park Hike - 6+mile
Tavern: Midway Bar & Grill-The Whispering Pines Trail has a 6 mile option or a 10 mile option. Located in western Ste. Genevieve County, the 4,956-acre park offers a special experience for anyone wanting to enjoy the splendor of nature. Geology buffs come to the park to see the number of exposed rock types; hikers love the park for its amazing trails.
